So Excited

So Excited

Today we went to get Miranda's hair cut for the first time. She was really excited about it. I had pumped her up the night before telling her everything that was going to happen. She said, "Mommy, you talk about it", asking me to continue talking about it. In the van on the way there she asked if there was going to be a living room. Dan told her that there would be couches and a waiting area. She was pleasantly surprised to find that the "living room" had a basket with a few toys in it.

We took her to the gal that cuts Dan's hair. She was really sweet with Miranda and did a great job on her hair. They pulled out this board that goes across the armrests for a booster seat. Miranda loved everything about the haircut from the waiting "living" room to the lollipop at the end. I think her smiles tell it all.

I love how Johnny plays with Dan's hair while he sits up top for a "giraffe ride" as Dan calls it. He sat up there the whole duration of the haircut.

Attention to Detail

Painting is one of Miranda's favorite rainy day activities. She does so well keeping her colors "clean" by washing off her brush in between. She actually does a great job of keeping herself clean too, although, she requests to wear mommy's apron (one of my middle school home ec. projects). If you're wondering if her sleeve was problematic, yes, it was. But that was my bad.

By the way, Miranda is getting her first haircut tomorrow. Ahhh!

My Two Little Pumpkins

My Two Little Pumpkins
Originally uploaded by dandeelines.
We went to the Arboretum last week with the mommy group from my church. It was a little muddy from all the rain we've had, but a lot of fun. There were pumpkins everywhere and Miranda and Johnny loved being able to climb on them, touch them, and carry them around.

In other news Johnny's nose has been runny (understatement) for about 2 weeks now. I think he's getting his molars. He loves walking around and being chased. He'll be running around soon! He has also decided to only take one nap a day now. He still spends some quiet time in his bed mid morning- sometimes with toys, sometimes without. Even though he doesn't sleep he still needs some down time, because he doesn't really know how to take a break. He plays hard!

Miranda is a chatterbox and likes to give a ongoing commentary of what she sees, does, or thinks. This results in many funny things coming out of her mouth. Today she was feeling her neck and she said, "My neck doesn't have cheeks like my forehead does." (She meant like her face does.) She is memorizing her books at an incredible rate and Dan and I would like to get more of The Word into her while her brain is such a sponge. She loves pretending to be Dora and going on adventures. It's fun to make everyday activities like taking a bath (aka Bathtub Lake) an adventure.

Skilz

A couple of firsts today- Johnny stood up without holding on to anything, which I caught on video. I also saw him squat down to pick something up and stand back up. He worked hard today. I think he'll sleep well tonight. If you look closely you may be able to notice he blows snot bubble right when I am saying, "good job". He's had a runny nose for about a week now. I think he is getting his one year old molars. It's almost party time!

Watch Out World!

Johnny has been taking steps for about three weeks now. But just this past week he's been practicing really hard, so I thought I would share a couple videos of his progress. He walks about 95% of the time now. If he falls down he just gets back up. Actually, I can't remember seeing him crawl at all today. It's all happening too fast. Today I saw him toddle by out of the corner of my eye and it took a moment to register.

All Done

Johnny is really starting to copy speech. Here it kind of sounds like he says "all done". I think he gets a little confused and the "d" comes out "b" part of the time. It looks like he is really concentrating. Today he was saying "nana" for banana.
